LWG 2018 July Studio Ghibli Brunch

We met at one of our favorite locations, Via Real in Irving, for our Studio Ghibli themed brunch last weekend. It was wonderful to meet some new people and catch up with old friends as well! Everyone had such adorable Miyazaki accessories and t-shirts, including red Kiki bows, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke shirts, Totoro earrings, and more.

We got to complete a word scramble and a quote identification activity with our neighbors at each table. The word scramble was particularly challenging, as it included producer names as well as titles of films. Although we had to avoid cheating with our phones, we combined our knowledge to get most of the answers anyway, and we learned about other Studio Ghibli films we want to see in the process! We were rewarded with extra raffle tickets for our efforts as well.

The brunch buffet was delicious, with a mix of breakfast and lunch food. There was also a huge range of desserts at the dessert bar, and even a chocolate fountain! We also enjoyed bottomless mimosas and poinsettas.

The raffle items were so adorable, with a Totoro lamp, Kiki bracelets, Totoro earrings, and a range of Studio Ghibli socks and even a hat! There was a lovely Princess Mononoke necklace as well.

We have a number of exciting events coming up, including a number of free and highly interactive ones, and we hope you can join us! Our next event is Boardgames & Tea at Unitea Bubble Tea in Arlington on July 21, and we also have a Sunday Fun-Day event at the new Regeneration Arcade Bar and Pizzeria in Dallas on July 29. In August, you can also come paint figurines with us for free at Games Workshop in Frisco on August 5. We have a Magic the Gathering night for free on August 15 at WeWork Legacy West. On August 25, we will be doing our first Painting with a Twist event in Denton, and you’ll be able to paint yourself (or your favorite character) in pop art style! Whatever your geekdom, we have something fun for you to come participate in!
